Another Hurricane Season Bites the Dust

Anna Maria Island in September...

By late September, summer has come to an end and Anna Maria Island has grown unusually quiet. In fact, in terms of entertainment and special events, September is generally one of the quietest months of the year.

September is also the peak of the hurricane season and more often than not, is one of the most active months of the year weather wise. That is why, its this time of year you'll find yourself (as one resident put it)... "watching the flowers grow, and watching the birds watching the fish". 

Bayfest 2009

Anna Maria Island 9th Annual Bayfest...

This years Bayfest Festivities, Saturday, October 17th, promises to be a very successful gathering of music, fun, arts, crafts, people, cars and a whole lot more!

Bayfest Kickoff

The kickoff begins Friday night, the 16th, with DJ by Mike Sales, featuring live music by the band Bootleg from 7 to 10.

Bayfest Festivities

Then on Saturday, just some of the festivities included are:

• Live mucical entertainment all day long
• Anna Maria Island's largest classic car show from 10 until 3 (with DJ spinning the oldies but goodies)
• The taste of the island food court
• Over 100 unique art, craft and retail venders
• Children's play area with white lions, demonstrations, games and activities

Of course there will be beverages for sale all day long!

Compared to most tourist areas, the beaches on Anna Maria Island are clean, however, in recent years, the beaches of Anna Maria Island have become less pristine than in the past.
