Key Royale off the Shores of Holmes Beach...
There is a little known island off the shores of Holmes Beach, Anna Maria Island, called Key Royale.
Holmes Beach is a city on Anna Maria Island. Anna Maria Island is in Manatee County, Florida. The population of Holmes Beach was 5,100 as of 2004 according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Key Royale
Included in the city limits of Holmes Beach is the adjacent bayside island of Key Royale.
Key Royale, originally known as School Key,remained uninhabited until 1960 when a bridge was built from Holmes Beach to Key Royale. Key Royale became part of Holmes Beach municipality and of course part of the Anna Maria Island community.
Once the bridge was to Key Royale development began.
It was 1965, when Jim Cochran built the key Royale golf course. You would get a membership free for purchasing a lot in Key Royale, the small Islet in Tampa Bay off Anna Maria Island.
Back then, the developer had the streets mapped along the canals that he dug, and Key Royale was another Florida development luring retirees from the north. The plan of course featured the 27 acres set aside for the nine-hole executive golf course.
Currently, Key Royale can be described as a canal-front community of executive homes where a lot of updating is going on. Boaters especially are drawn to Key Royale's easy access to Tampa Bay and the Gulf.
Holmes Beach
Holmes Beach is 15 miles NW of Sarasota and 34 miles SW of Tampa. Holmes Beach City is conveniently located inside the Sarasota - Bradenton metropolitan area.
There are estimated to be around 6,000 people in Holmes Beac, with about 58% of adults are married. Holmes Beach of course has its fair share of retirees.
Holmes Beach has a large middle class and you won't find too many people living below the poverty line. It's also worth mentioning that smart, educated people feel at home in Holmes Beach. A tendency for its residents to work at home is one of the things that define the lifestyle in the city.
