Cute, Fun and Funny Turtle Pics...
It's my day off folks, it's nearly Christmas, and I just wanted to do something for the Anna Maria Island Life blog that was Fun. It's all fun of course, what I mean though is that I wanted to do something that serves no real purpose other than it is Fun to do... and Fun to look at.
What I came up with was turtles, which is one more reason to Love Anna Maria Island.
We All Love Turtles
We all love turtles. Who doesn't, so I thought I'd surf the net for a bit and post a few turtle pics to lighten everyone's day.. and before anyone emails, yes I know they aint all sea turtles ;-)
Some are cute, some funny, and some... well, some just aren't right. What can I say, its my day off folks!
This first image I just couldn't resists, it is winter of course, so what better way to start a post of turtle pictures than with a snow turtle.
And again, before anyone decides to email me, I know there is no such thing as a 'snow turtle'.
Or is there?
Probably not anywhere around Anna Maria Island... lol.
"Help! I was late hacking and a cold front moved in."
Crowded Turtles
Turtles are just so irresistible, aren't they?
These little guys are crowded together and competing for space. Or maybe they're just having Fun!
Hmmm, I wonder what the caption would be?
"Look ma, no hands."
Maybe, "Wooo-ho-hooo nelly!"
Or, "How you like my wheelie guys, pretty cool eh?"
It's true, nature is art, or perhaps better said, "Nature is the ultimate art form."
Nature can be amazingly beautiful in its simplicity, as this turtle image clearly demonstrates.
Don't know what they're doing here, having a nap... or maybe they're just waking up. Can't tell which.
Heck, maybe they're hiding... lol.
"Hey Francis, are they gone yet?" K, well I'm behind my rent. Don't tell anyone I'm home, ok?"
Here is a typical shot of a couple of sea turtles out for a cruise.
Stop following me will, you're a bug. Ha-ha, shows what you know. I'm no bug, I'm a sea turtle jackass.
It's interesting that scientists are still researching sea turtle longevity. Once sea turtles reach sexual maturity, they may have an estimated reproductive life of about 30 years. Given that some species reach maturity at 50 years, an 80-year lifespan is feasible.
Currently there is not an adequate method of aging sea turtles. The most accepted method, aside from observing a turtle from the time it hatches, is to study growth rings of the scales on the carapace and plastron. Scientists count the rings and use a mathematical formula to estimate a turtle's age.
How big do sea turtles grow you may ask?
Well, Leatherback turtles are the largest sea turtles. They grow very, very large and are the fourth largest reptile, coming in behind the crocodile. The largest of the leatherback sea turtles on record was over three meters from head to tail and it weight more than 900 kilograms.
Wow!
The image on the right of course is a size relation chart that gives an idea of just how large sea turtles generally get when compared to us humans.
Actually, it's 'Turtle Beer', not a 'beer turtle', but we're not beer promoting here, we're simply enjoying the day with our turtle friends... lol.
Of course there is no such thing as a 'beer turtle', but there's no convincing the little gaffer on the right.
"I like my beer two ways, cold and dark!"
Turtle Captions
Visit the Anna Maria Life Turtle Forum and leave a turtle caption of your own.
It's not set up just yet, but will be very soon. Go ahead and have some fun. We'll be setting up threads for each of the turtle pics so all you have to do is post your caption to the turtle thread of you choice.
Well, there is my, "Have You Seen a Turtle?" post for the day.
Now I'm going to go have me a an extra cold, extra dark, Turtle beer... lol.
"Merry Christmas" everyone, from all of us at Anna Maria Island Life ;-)
