Bridge to Anna Maria Island Opens Today...
GREAT NEWS FOLKS, the wait is over !!!!
That's right, the Anna Maria Island bridge is set to open ahead of schedule
The AMI Chamber of Commerce said, "We have just received notification from the Florida DOT that the Manatee Avenue Bridge will open tomorrow, November 6th at 8:00 PM.
Thanks for everybody's patience, our Island truly worked together as a team to keep everything alive (including morale) during the duration of the repairs. See you on the bridge."
Florida State officials say the drawbridge that connects Anna Maria Island to Perico Island and the mainland over the Intercoastal Waterway, will open at 8 p.m. Thursday evening. That is a week ahead of schedule.
The bridge was closed on Sept. 29th for what ended up being a $9.14 million renovation. Repairs included reinforcement of the support structure, repair of the drawbridge mechanism and renovation of the control booth. The project cost. The repairs are expected to add 15 years to the life span of the 50-year-old bridge, that carries east-west lanes of State Road 64/Manatee Avenue. The bridge handles about 17,000 vehicles per day.
A Department of Transportation spokeswoman attributed the ahead-of-schedule opening to hard work and good timing by various companies and the main contractor, Quinn Construction of Palmetto.
Wooo Hooooooo!
The bridge to AMI is open......... ;-)
