Anna Maria Bayfest Music Festival Lineup...
Once again, its time to get out your dancing shoes and rock your Island, at Bayfest 2008.
Bayfest Festivities take place on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Pine Avenue in Anna Maria City.
BAYFEST MUSICAL LINEUP
The musical lineup on the main stage at Pine Avenue and North Bay Boulevard includes Jimi Gee, Hwy 41, Koko Ray and the Soul Providers, the Alternators Blues Band, Kettle of Fish and the Dr. Dave Band.
Jimi Gee
Jimi Gee will take the stage, first with his jazz trio, from 9 to 11 a.m. – Don Dean on bass, Rich McDonald on drums, Jimi on guitar and guest vocalist Gwen Fogts. Following the trio, Jimi will perform with the Sarasota Gold Big Band, playing all your big band favorites.
Jimi Gee is one of the most prolific singers, songwriters and musicians to emerge from this region.
His musical style is very original, as well as commercial. Jimi has been involved in music since he was a small child growing up in Milton Florida. It was in those early years that he began learning to play guitar.
Second on stage from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. is Hwy 41, with band members Dave Glaser on guitar and vocals, Jeff Kemper on bass and vocals, Mike Rettig on lead guitar and vocals, Dave Russell on drums and vocals and new member Jage Nichols on vocals, playing rock from the 60s to current times.
HWY 41 plays a mixture of old and newer music with some originals tossed into the mix. You'll hear everything from Cream and the Allman Brothers to Sublime and the Foo Fighters.
They are working on putting together their first CD and just starting to play locally but mostly they are having fun. They all agree, that playing for the love of music and not to pay the bills makes it a lot more enjoyable.
Koko Ray and the Soul Providers
Third in the lineup from 1 to 3 p.m. is Koko Ray and the Soul Providers – bassist Greg Slusher, drummer Michael Finley and guitarist John Purcell. Ray rounds it out on saxophone, flute, guitars and percussion. The band plays everything from rock to funk to blues to fusion.
Koko Ray's woodwind virtuosity is powerfully backed by The Soul Providers ultra tight rhythm section, comprised of veteran bassist Greg Slusher and drummer Michael Finley.
The superbly versatile sound of guitarist John Purcell gives the band the ability to move seamlessly from genre to genre without missing a beat.
Alternators Blues Band
The Alternators Blues Band will take the stage from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. playing Chicago style blues. The band includes guitarist/vocalist Gary Ryley, keyboardist Jacques Eugene, percussionist Tom O’Neill and guitarist/vocalist Pete "Lobo" Nemec.
The Alternators Blues Band consists of four individuals from a diverse background who have united to bring you the best of Chicago-style blues. Their music is intended to be enjoyed by listening to the complement ot instruments as used in the Chicago -style format. That is: guitar,bass,keyboards, harmonica, vocals and saxaphone.
Kettle of Fish
Kettle of Fish is up next from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dana Lawrence on vocals, guitar and harmonica; Sanderson Poe on standup and electric bass; Thorson Moore on vocals and guitar; and Garrett Dawson and Cort Farris on drums and percussion play roots-based blues.
KOF have been performing in clubs, pubs and venues all over the States, and the World, for many years. They have shared the stage with members of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Roger Waters' Band, the Incredible String Band, LoneStar, Dickey Betts' Band, the Amazing Bolts, Shea Seger, Berry Oakley Jr, Twinkle, Jack Kirkner of Honeytribe, and Jimmy Buffett, among others.
Their new music is more of a roots based "blues jam with soul..." If you like the sound of Tom Petty, the Grateful Dead, Robert Cray, BB King, Dave Matthews, Johnny Cash, Radiohead, Al Green, Stevie Wonder, the Allman Brothers, the Rolling Stones, Clapton... you will love Kettle of Fish.

Dr. Dave Band
Closing the festival from 8 to 10 p.m.is the Dr. Dave Band playing, as he describes it, CountryGrassRock. The band includes Dr, Dave on guitar, fiddle, banjo, harmonica and vocals; Todd Cook on bass and vocals; Pete Gregov on drums and vocals; and Tracy Austin on guitar and vocals.
Fun! Energy! Excitement and Incredible Talent!
Dr. Dave, with his arsenal of high energy vocals and playing, will rock you! When was the last time you were in awe of the talent you were watching?
He and his great band of musicians bring energy and excitement to Country, Classic Rock, New Rock & Bluegrass Rock. Dave describes it as "CountryGrassRock." Picture country-rock on steroids with an infusion of bluegrass banjo and fiddle. . ..and when Dr. Dave breaks out his fiddle - Look Out!
Food, Beverages, Classic Cars, Motorcycles and Kids Games
Area restaurants will be participating in a Taste of the Island, the AMI Chamber of Commerce will be selling beverages and vendors will offer a variety of items. There will be a classic car show and a motorcycle show, both with trophy presentations, as well as children’s games and activities.
