Back in late January, 07, we published a short, About Anna Maria Island and Introduction to Anna Maria City. We promised follow up introductory posts to Anna Maria's sister cites of Holmes Beach and Bradenton Beach.
Well, we recently updated the About Anna Maria Island and Introduction to Anna Maria City posts, published the About Holmes Beach post, and today we publish our introductory post to Anna Maria's sister city of Bradenton Beach.
Anna Maria Island, Home to Bradenton Beach
Located on the west coast of Florida, Anna Maria Island is the barrier between the Gulf of Mexico and Tampa Bay with white sand beaches stretching for 7 miles along the Gulf coastline.
There is a canal network throughout the island that allows an interesting selection of water-front lifestyles, plus an island trolley system for transportation throughout the three individually unique island cities.
Bradenton Beach caters to and is dependent upon the tourists and their activities.
Village of Bradenton Beach
Bradenton Beach is a charming and vibrant community of 1,500 located at the southern end of Anna Maria Island. The Island is located at the southern entrance to Tampa Bay on the Gulf of Mexico.
Brandenton Beach shares Anna Maria Island with her sister cities of Holmes Beach and Anna Maria City. Access to Anna Maria Island can be achieved from the mainland (Bradenton) via bridges on Cortez Road or Manatee Avenue or from Longboat Key to the south via the bridge over Longboat Pass.
Historic Bridge Street
The Bradenton Beach community has had a recent face-lift with Historic Bridge Street, the focal point for interesting shopping. There are regular Bridge Street special events such as "Movie Night", "Mardi Gras", Art Shows, Car Shows, etc. - Its a fun place to be.
You can pamper yourself at a day spa as well as enjoy fine dining and nightly entertainment.
Coquina Beach
Flanking Bridge Street is Coquina Beach; a 96- acre Australian pine shaded oasis of beauty. Toward the southern most point, on the bay side, are sandy paths lined with lush foliage leading to Sarasota Bay for viewing many species of water and shore birds.
Bradenton Beach as a Florida Vacation Destination
As a Florida vacation destination, Bradenton Beach is blessed with miles of sugar sand beach. The City also maintains three parks within its boundaries.
People come to Bradenton Beach to enjoy the slower pace that city life does not have to offer. There are no traffic jams, congested living areas or opera theaters on Anna Maria Island - though all of these city-life extras are just a short drive away.

Bradenton Beach City Pier
The once popular Bradenton Beach City Pier has re-opened featuring a 2.2 million dollar renovation. The historic pier suffered structural damage during the Hurricane season of 2004 and has been closed since.
The City Pier features tremendous views and good fishing, and includes a completely rebuilt Restaurant, Bathhouse and Restrooms, Bait and Tackle Shop, Harbormaster's Office and a 300 foot day dock. Perched at the north end of beautiful Sarasota Bay, the Historic Bradenton Beach City Pier and Cafe is a favorite of residents and tourists alike.
On the bay end of the pier, the Richard P Suhre Pavilion offers a shady spot to fish or just enjoy the view. The pavilion is also a popular spot for special events such as weddings. If you are looking for a complete family day out, come early and stay late!
