Anna Maria Island Art League Features Young Manatee Artists...
Friday's opening of the new art show at the Anna Maria Island Art League had all of the usual ingredients, except that all of the artists are students at Manatee High School.
It's the 14th year these young local Anna Maria Area teenagers have wrapped up a busy school year with an art show featuring some of their best work.
Many of the student artists are also academic superstars so they were in the midst of advanced placement exams and their year-end projects for other classes. It was also a hectic time for teacher Rob Rieber, as he was coaching kids who were assembling their advanced art portfolios while pulling together the 100-plus pieces for the new show.
Rieber said, "the encouragement of student artist Danielle Janney helped get through the busy time. She is a rising star and was the calming influence in the midst of chaos." He also credits school principal Bob Gagnon for his support of the arts and for working to keep the funding in place for the program.
More than 60 students submitted pieces for the mixed-media show. The art league will host the exhibit through May 28.
