City of Anna Maria Beach Renourishment Project in Jeopardy...

Recently in Anna Maria Island news - Anna Maria beach renourishment project in jeopardy due to lack of funds. Solution? Secure state and county funding.

Because the Anna Maria beach renourishment project doesn't qualify for either federal or Federal Emergency Management Agency money, the county was expected to contribute roughly 4 million dollars to see the needed project through.

Tuesday night however, Anna Maria city commissioners were informed that Manatee County may not have the funds needed for the 2011 Anna Maria beach renourishment project. In fact, it is not clear whether Manatee County officials even want to pay for the project.

"Three commissioners had concerns about funding because it would cause us to take out a loan," Manatee County Commissioner Carol Whitmore told the city commission. "We've got to convince the (county) commission that the City of Anna Maria is tourist dedicated."

According to Amy Welch, owner of Acqua Aveda Spa of Anna Maria Island, "We believe that the whole day should be a celebration. We will do your wedding parties' hair and makeup and we will serve you and your guests mimosas and champagne.

In other words, getting ready should be fun."
