The award-winning Anna Maria Island Sun newspaper is published each Wednesday and is a leader in coverage of all aspects of Island life, including news, business, entertainment, real estate and sports. It has an average distribution of 16,000 copies every week and reaches more than 30,000 readers.
The Sun is the dream of Publisher Mike Field, an award-winning journalist with more than 25 years experience who launched the newspaper in September, 2000.
Field's resume includes working as an editor, reporter and photographer at such publications as The Tampa Tribune, The Sarasota Herald-Tribune, The St. Louis Globe-Democrat and the Charleston (S.C.) News & Courier. His stories and photographs also have been published by the Associated Press, Florida Today, the St. Petersburg Times and Tampa Bay Life Magazine.
Co-publisher of the paper is Field's wife, Maggie, an award-winning photographer who has worked for a variety of news organizations, including The Tampa Tribune, The Miami Herald, The Miami News, the Associated Press and United Press International.
